Innovation Eras

The DeepSouth Era is Xandeum's starting point for building a decentralized storage layer. In this era, the first version of XandMiner, the XandMiner Daemon dubbed XandMinerD will be released, allowing users to create key pairs, register their pNodes, and create and destroy file systems on their pNode. These basic functions provide everything needed to begin operating a pNode and get a headstart through first mover advantage in the scalable storage layer.

The South era delivers a complete working prototype of the Xandeum solution. It starts with an architecture spike, a journey through all layers of the architecture to provide a proof of concept. This era rapidly implements the full API for storage-enabled dApps, allowing developers to utilize the scalable storage layer through a file system model. Basic search functionalities, pNode rewards, redundancy, and paging are also included. In essence, the South era provides a comprehensive and functional Xandeum prototype.

The Main era, named after the German river Main, marks the launch of Xandeum's Minimum Viable Product (MVP). This means that in the Main era, Xandeum is ready for real-world use by storage-enabled decentralized applications (sedApps). Our demo app, info.wiki, a fully decentralized version of Wikipedia, will be launched during this era. The Main era's MVP will also feature a basic implementation of Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) and trust anchoring to the Solana blockchain, ensuring a secure and reliable storage solution for real-world applications.

The Central era marks a significant leap forward for Xandeum. By implementing full Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) for pNodes, using cutting-edge technology like the HotStuff BFT mechanism, Xandeum achieves blockchain-grade qualities for its storage layer. This effectively extends the Solana blockchain's functionality, making Xandeum's storage an on-chain solution. The Central era represents a major technological advancement and one of the most exciting phases in Xandeum's development.

The Coal era, named after Germany's coal-mining region Ruhrgebiet, prepares Xandeum for production. This era focuses on refining the HotStuff-based BFT for enhanced pNode security and introduces dynamic Fee Markets based on supply and demand. Fees, paid in SOL, will adapt constantly and be shared with key stakeholders: pNode operators, validators, and stakers in Xandeum's storage-enabled liquid staking platform and, of course, the DAO which is owned collectively by all XAND holders.

The North era marks the culmination of Xandeum's journey, introducing advanced features for scale and performance. This includes refining the Fee Market model, implementing parallel processing and load balancing, establishing storage regions, and enabling high concurrency, global distribution, and streaming capabilities. In essence, the North era brings Xandeum to full production-grade at scale.
